Ten individuals sentenced of cyber-bullying against Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced accusations of spreading untruths regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to making hurtful comments about the pair's age disparity of 24 years.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has yet to be released.
A persistent unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France is concurrent with the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the US against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the first lady's biological sex.
Their legal filing states that Owens ignored any factual proof contradicting her allegations choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The two tied the knot in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
