PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
