Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the events of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party enter places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect learning which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
